Abstract

Barium peritonitis is a rare complication of intestinal imaging studies, but it is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Barium sulfate is an inert material, but when it is poured into the peritoneal cavity it can cause significant symptoms due to its osmotic effect. This article describes a case of colonic perforation by barium enema at our center, its treatment and subsequent evolution.
