Violencia de Género y de pareja en adolescentesEl papel del machismo, la aceptación de la violencia y las masculinidades en la salud

Resumen

La presente tesis doctoral se enmarca en la línea de investigación “Violencia de Género y Salud Pública”, con especial atención a la situación de la población adolescente y el papel del machismo, la aceptación de la violencia y las masculinidades en esta problemática. Este trabajo consta de cinco capítulos siguiendo el orden que se explica continuación: a) marco teórico (capítulos I y II), b) justificación de la tesis doctoral y metodología (capítulo III), c) trabajos publicados (capítulo IV), y d) discusión y conclusiones (capítulo V). Los estudios empíricos que conforman este trabajo se han centrado en el ámbito de la adolescencia, concretamente en la violencia de pareja, el machismo y la aceptación de la violencia, así como la relación entre estas distintas variables. Aunque la violencia de pareja entre adolescentes es un tema que está cada vez más en auge en el ámbito de la investigación, el machismo y la aceptación de la violencia como componentes del pensamiento violento, y su relación con la violencia de pareja en adolescentes, o con otros factores, no ha sido estudiado hasta el momento. Una de las razones, es por la escasez de herramientas validadas que midan estos constructos. Por otra parte, aunque se encuentran intervenciones en materia de prevención de violencia de pareja en adolescentes, no se ha identificado ninguna que utilice el modelo de Desarrollo Positivo de la Juventud como forma de promover relaciones interpersonales positivas en esta población, ni la evaluación de la efectividad sobre las variables de machismo y aceptación de la violencia. Por otra parte, existen revisiones sistemáticas o metaanálisis sobre la efectividad de las intervenciones en materia de violencia de pareja en adolescentes y jóvenes adultos/as. Sin embargo, tampoco hasta el momento se han localizado revisiones sistemáticas sobre efectividad de intervenciones que tengan como objetivo prevenir la violencia de pareja o de género bajo un enfoque transformador de género (o gender-transformative). Este enfoque trata de que las personas hagan una reflexión crítica sobre el género, lo que llevaría a la deconstrucción de la masculinidad y feminidad hegemónicas. La presente tesis doctoral se plantea con la finalidad de generar conocimiento y herramientas que puedan contribuir al abordaje del machismo y aceptación de la violencia en población adolescente. Para ello se han planteado cinco objetivos de investigación, cada uno de ellos ligado a un artículo empírico. Los principales resultados de cada uno de los estudios aparecen recogidos en el capítulo IV. En el último capítulo (capítulo V), se discuten los hallazgos más significativos obtenidos en cada uno de los estudios, las limitaciones y las perspectivas de futuro que puedan abrir nuevas vías de investigación en este campo. En el primer estudio se analizan las propiedades psicométricas y se realiza un análisis factorial confirmatorio de la versión española de la escala “Maudsley Violence Questionnaire” en adolescentes. Esta herramienta se desarrolló inicialmente en Reino Unido con la finalidad de evaluar el pensamiento violento a través de dos subescalas; una que evaluaba el machismo y otra que evaluaba la aceptación de la violencia. Para adaptar esta versión a población española, se utilizó una muestra de 1933 adolescentes de centros educativos que estaban cursando secundaria (13-18 años). La estructura factorial mostró unos buenos índices de ajuste, similares a los de la escala original. El análisis exploratorio arrojó un primer factor (machismo) que explicó el 11,3% de la varianza total, y un segundo factor que explicó el 10,8% (aceptación de la violencia) de la varianza total. Se obtuvieron unos buenos índices de ajuste, lo que confirmó que el modelo se ajustaba adecuadamente a los datos, lo que supone que la herramienta es válida para medir el machismo y la aceptación de la violencia en esta población. En el segundo estudio analizamos los factores asociados a la victimización de violencia de pareja en adolescentes (o teen dating violence; TDV), considerando las circunstancias socioeconómicas, la orientación sexual y la presencia de diferentes actitudes y experiencias relacionadas con la violencia. Se utilizó una muestra de 640 adolescentes de entre 13 y 17 años que informaron haber tenido una relación de pareja, de las ciudades de Alicante (n=349) y Terrassa (n=281). Esta muestra se recogió en el contexto de una intervención educativa en secundaria para promover relaciones saludables. Los resultados mostraron que la probabilidad de sufrir TDV fue mayor entre aquellas personas inmigrantes y aquellas cuyos padres nacieron fuera de España, aquellas que tuvieron experiencias previas de abuso, y que obtuvieron altas puntuaciones en machismo. En las chicas esta probabilidad de victimización se vio incrementada para aquellas que manifestaron tener una orientación homosexual-bisexual y una mala relación con el profesorado. En el tercer estudio analizamos la asociación entre el apoyo social, experiencias de violencia, y características sociodemográficas, y la probabilidad de aceptación de la violencia y machismo en adolescentes de diferentes ciudades europeas. Para ello se recogió una muestra de 1555 adolescentes de entre 13 y 16 años de centros educativos de Alicante (España), Roma (Italia), Iasi (Rumanía), Matosinhos (Portugal), Poznan (Polonia), y Cardiff (Reino Unido). Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que la aceptación de la violencia fue más alta en aquellas personas que percibieron un apoyo social bajo por parte de sus padres/madres. La perpetración de bullying/ciberbullying estuvo asociada a unas mayores puntuaciones en machismo y aceptación de la violencia. Asimismo, las personas que se declararon víctimas de TDV, que sufrieron abuso físico o sexual en la infancia, y que percibieron un bajo apoyo social por parte del profesorado, estuvo asociado a unas mayores puntuaciones en machismo y aceptación de la violencia. Se analizaron las diferencias por sexo. En el cuarto estudio se analizó la efectividad de la intervención “filmemos juntos para vernos en un nuevo presente” del proyecto Lights4Violence, en la reducción del machismo y aceptación de la violencia en estudiantes de secundaria de diferentes ciudades europeas. Se utilizó una muestra de 1146 estudiantes de entre 12 y 17 años (575 del grupo de intervención y 571 del grupo control. Se identificó una interacción entre la variable grupo y la variable empatía. En concreto, en la oleada 2, las chicas del grupo de intervención con alta empatía en la línea base obtuvieron puntuaciones medias más bajas en aceptación de la violencia. Sin embargo, los chicos del grupo de intervención (en comparación con el grupo control) con una baja empatía en línea base registraron un incremento significativo en los valores medios de machismo en la oleada 2. Con referencia al quinto estudio, se realizó una revisión sistemática sobre las características principales, la calidad metodológica, y los resultados obtenidos de estudios publicados sobre evaluaciones de intervenciones educativas, que tenían como objetivo la prevención de diferentes formas de Violencia de Género, abordando las masculinidades hegemónicas en jóvenes. Se escogió la literatura disponible entre 2008 y 2019, utilizando diferentes bases de datos. Los resultados mostraron que la mayor parte de estudios fueron aplicados en África (n=10/15), y que la mayoría se trataban de ensayos controlados aleatorios (n=8/15). La mayoría de los estudios informaron de una disminución significativa en la violencia física (n=12), así como en la perpetración y victimización de violencia sexual (n=6/15). Los estudios longitudinales obtuvieron resultados consistentes en el tiempo. Esto resaltó la importancia de utilizar un enfoque transformador de género en las intervenciones educativas para alentar a que la juventud tenga un pensamiento crítico sobre la masculinidad hegemónica y para prevenir la Violencia de Género.
