Abstract

Objectives The objective of this article is to review the current digitalization of dentistry, technological advances, limitations and challenges to guarantee quality and efficiency in dental care. Methods This review is divided into the following discussion topics, the utilization of augmented and virtual reality, digital scanners, telemedicine in dentistry, artificial intelligence, and digital oral health record. We have included 30 relevant references after evaluating the titles, abstracts and texts from the databases: Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed from the last 3 years (2019-2022). Results After application digital tools in dentistry, it is possible to achieve more efficient and precise processes in a shorter time. Conclusions This work shows how digitization is increasingly being applied normally in the dental sector, improving results in terms of efficiency, time and costs.
