Abstract

Background. Nowadays, technological advances have made possible to start up new learning strategies using characteristics of the mobile devices. It arises what is known as m-learning. Method. It is carried out a simple blinded, randomized, controlled study with a sample of voluntary students Physical Therapy degree (N=105). It was evaluated the competencies in terms of ultrasound management through an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) ranged from 0 (very bad) to 4 (very good) as well as the execution time. Results. A total of 105 participants were randomized to experimental group (n=50) or control group (n=55). The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed significant differences between groups for all competencies of ultrasound management in favour of experimental group, except for the execution time variable which was in favour of control group: patient positioning, head positioning, head orientation, head management and image adjustment (all: P<0.001) and execution time (P=0.009). Conclusions. The results suggest as the Physical Therapy students could benefit of this kind of m-learning for the acquisition of competencies in ultrasound.
