Abstract

This project aims to conduct multidisciplinary research for the knowledge and conservation of Roman mural painting with the application of non-invasive analytical methodology using portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer equipment (XRF) and diagnostic imaging. The method focuses on identifying specimens made with the same techniques and materials used in Roman times. The application of (XRF) will carry out on original fragments of Roman mural paintings from the Istvurgi archaeological site in Los Villares in Andújar (Jaén). The use of this analytical technique will make it possible to accurately study the composition of the materials that make up these wall paintings, to know the execution technique and to assess their state of conservation. The materials’ analytical study will help determine the best conservation and restoration processes. This method can be extended to other archaeological sites.
