Abstract

The three periods of the Taifa kingdoms marked a turning point in the Reconquista, which entailed a gradual growth and strengthening of the Christian kingdoms at the expense of a decline in Al-Andalus' influence. In contrast, the regional military lords during the end of the Tang dynasty and the Five Dynasties not only brought an end to the period of maximum splendor and prosperity of the Central Empire's aristocratic rulers, but also ushered in a new political landscape with the transition from the Tang dynasty to the Song dynasty. In this thesis, the political, economic, cultural, military and religious characteristics of the three Taifa kingdom periods and the China between 755 and 979 are compared. The causes of the emergence of distinctive characteristics in each period are examined, as well as the similarities and differences between the two periods in a variety of respects. This comparison aims to highlight their distinctiveness and historical characteristics. This study compares the political, economic, cultural, military and religious aspects of the three periods of the Taifa kingdoms to those of the late Tang dynasty and the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms. The purpose of this analysis is to cast light on the characteristics and historical nuances of each period.
