Abstract

The objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of tibialis posterior stimulation in patients with overactive bladder resistant to pharmacological treatment, as well as whether it can be associated with the presence or not of urodynamic alterations prior to treatment. Methodology: Clinical study of 39 patients where they were surveyed before and after applying the first cycle of treatment, using a three-day urinary diary. We also measured the improvement perceived by the patients at the end of the treatment. Results: Statistically significant improvement was detected in clinical parameters such as daytime and nighttime urination frequency, urgency episodes and incontinence episodes out of urgency. A statistically significant increase was observed in the urodynamic parameters of the delay in the first sensation of bladder filling and a non-significant increase in bladder capacity, in addition, 66.7% reported subjective clinical improvement after completing the treatment. Conclusions: Stimulation of the tibialis posterior is an effective alternative and the improvement in the measured parameters does not seem to be associated with the presence or absence of previous urodynamic alterations. More studies are needed to establish more conclusive results.
