Abstract

Demographic changes in Spain have traditionally appeared with some chronological delay if compared with Northwestern European countries, although such changes have nevertheless developed faster. Thus, along the Twentieth Century, the Spanish population has not only doubled in size but also shown a deep transformation in all its indicators; so much so that if in 1900 it was still a primitive demographic system, it is currently considered a fully modern one.
