Abstract

Metric coefficients gij of surface—colour discrimination ellipses obtained by different authors have been calculated and the corresponding isocurves plotted in the CIE—1964 chromatic diagram. These results have been compared graphical and numerically with previsions made for different color—difference formulas (CIELIJV, CIELAB, LABNHU and a new formula proposed previously by us). Although our formula and, in certain cases, some of the others fit well for mode—aperture stimuli, when they are applied to surface—colours none of them presents significative advantages over the rest.
