Abstract

Nowadays, there are twenty-five objects in several Spanish archaeological collections describing the musical life (musicians, songs, and musical instruments) of ancient Mesopotamia. Among them, there are terracotta figurines depicting musicians with their instruments. However, the majority are clay tablets bearing Sumerian or Akkadian cuneiform texts of various contents: from delivery of materials for making musical instruments to lyrics. This article presents and contextualizes this heritage historically. In that way, it is hoped that Spanish Musicologists and music lovers point out the value of this heritage from now on
