Resumen
The in crease in longevity in the European population contributes to the emerging of bone-joint, osseous metabolic diseases and, especially of osteoporosis, as "the great silent epidemic of the 21 st century". Ali of these diseases manifest a progressive prevalence of the osseous fracture. The osteoporosis is a multidisciplinary pathologic entity which still, in spite of the great efforts of the health and public groups, has not achieved the sensibilization of society in a proper way. We are dealing with the worst chronic disease in Europe where most of the women are not aware of the risk they run if they do not do their best far its prevention. The disease is mainly bound to female sex, and in Spain, more than 2 million women suffer from osteoporosis with a very important risk of fracture leve!. Being the nutrition, the sun and the physical activity the three main pillars far the prevention of the disease, it is very striking its high inciden ce in a country with so many sun hours and a diet as our country has. There are risk factors that cannot be avoided, like the age, the race, the genetics, the physical constitution, etc. But other factors can be avoided because they are environmental or life-style factors: a low calcium and vitamin O diet, smoking, taking toxins, etc. From ali the possible perspectives, we must work for the prevention of avoidable fractures and far the improvement of the quality of lite of millions of Europeans.
