Doctor by the Universidad de Málaga with the thesis Optimization of mobility parameters using fuzzy logic and reinforcement learning in self-organizing networks 2013. Supervised by Dr. Raquel Barco Moreno.
Pablo Muñoz is an associate professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad) at the Department of Signal Theory, Telematic and Communications of the University of Granada (Spain) and a member of the Wireless and Multimedia Networking lab (TIC-235) research group and the Research Center on Information and Communications Technologies (CITIC). He has two research periods (Sexenios) and two teaching periods (Quinquenios). He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunication Engineering, both with honors, from the University of Málaga (Spain) in 2008 and 2013, respectively. In 2009, he was awarded a competitive grant (FPI) from the Andalusian Government to support his research towards the Ph.D. degree in optimization of mobile radio access networks. His doctoral thesis has resulted in 7 JCR publications, and it was awarded by the Andalusian Association of Telecommunications Engineers at the XII "Night of Telecommunications". During this period, he participated in European COST Actions 2100 and IC1004, under which he performed a Short-Term Scientific Mission at the Technical University of Braunschweig (Germany). Also, he was a visiting researcher at Aalborg University (Denmark) in collaboration with Nokia Networks. Upon completing Ph.D. studies, he continued his career at the University of Málaga as a researcher within an R&D contract with Optimi-Ericsson (~2M€) where he published 4 international patents. His research career was recognized at the VII "Juan López de Peñalver" research awards of the General Foundation of the University of Málaga. In 2016, he was the recipient of a competitive "Juan de la Cierva" fellowship at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain), where he contributed to the European H2020 project SESAME. In 2017, he joined the Department of Signal Theory, Telematics, and Communications at the University of Granada (Spain). Since then, he has been participating in different national and European R&D projects in the field of 5G systems, such as the European H2020 project 5G-CLARITY (~5.7M€) and the UNICO-5G 6G-CHRONOS (~1M€). He serves as a principal investigator for the PID2022 6G-INSPIRE project within the national program. In this context, he is the supervisor of two Ph.D. candidates. In addition to classical R&D projects, he has participated in several Research Networks from dynamization actions and Scientific-Technical Equipment projects. He also serves as a co-principal investigator for the UNICO-5G 6G-CAERUS project within the national Promotion Plan of Telecommunication Studies. Besides, he participated in the organization of IEEE CSCN 2019, and he was Guest Editor of the Special Issue "Radio Access Network Planning and Management" in journal Electronics. He is a regular expert evaluator at the National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP). He was a member of the Technical Evaluation Committee of the IEEE PIMRC and ISWCS. He serves as a regular reviewer in JCR journals (especially from IEEE and Springer publishers). Lastly, regarding university management activities, he holds the Secretary of the Department of Signal Theory, Telematic and Communications.
