Leyre Morgado-Roncal holds a PhD from the University of Granada (UGR) (2025). She received the International Doctorate Mention and the highest distinction (Cum Laude). Her PhD, “Textrina Emeritensis. Estudio arqueológico del ciclo productivo textil y su artesanado”, was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education (FPU, 2021-2025). Moreover, it is one of the first in-depth archaeological works to deal holistically with the study of Textile Production in Roman Iberia. Specializing in Textile Archaeology, her investigation focuses on comprehending the manufacture and use of textiles and fibres in the past. Her research integrates archaeometry, experimental archaeology, ethnography, gender perspectives as well as typo-chronological and functional analysis. She is trained in textile technologies and hands-on approaches by Gillian Vogelsang-Eastwood (Intensive Textile Course, Textile Research Centre, Leiden, 2023), EuroWeb’s training schools (textile tools from Bronze Age Malia, 2023 and mineralized textiles from Pompeii, 2024) and Padova’s Textile Training School (2025). She was a research collaborator in one of the biggest international projects of her field (EuroWeb Cost Action 19131, 2020-2024) and part of the Secretariat in the last International Symposiums of Textiles in the Mediterranean (IX Purpureae Vestes, 2025). She is also very engaged in science communication. In fact, she also counts with a dissemination project, @archaeotextiles (Instagram), in which she disseminates Textile Archaeology to the bigger public.
