Abstract
Current curricula suggest introduce the mathematical concepts through real situations where these concepts are used in a meaningful way. The history of mathematics provides an important source of real examples, since we can find the situations that originate the discovering of mathematical objects and identify some difficulties in their development that may be reproduced in the students learning. In this paper we summarize some facts that lead to the creation of correlation and regression and reflect on the possible uses of the history of mathematics in the classroom.
