Abstract

This work presents the study of the influence of global fields of Sea Level Pressure (SLP) and Sea Surface Temperature (SST), as well as the impact of various climatic teleconnections indices (NAO, PDO, NIÑO 3.4, etc.) on the precipitation in Colombia. To this end, previously, the main modes of variability of precipitation for winter (DJF) and summer (JJA) seasons in the country have been identified using principal component analysis (PCA). The results show a significant influence of the previous seasonal SLP and the SST from the Pacific, essentially associated with the ENSO, and from the tropical Atlantic, more significant for winter precipitation than for summer, that could be used for the prediction of rainfall in Colombia.
