Abstract

There is no doubt that the phenomenon of immigration is nowadays a source of wealth for the host country. This paper aims to approach the linguistic and cultural reality of the migration phenomenon in the Spanish context from the viewpoint of the translator and interpreter. It is argued that the vocabulary associated with migration is in a process of formation which has evolved and expanded rapidly over the last decade, with a heightened lexicogenetic activity. The study allows us to perceive the highly accelerated lexical creation process of this type of vocabulary, due to a large extent to the social evolution of the migration phenomenon in Spain. The vocabulary is characterized by an abundance of neologisms and recently coined terms.
