Abstract

Nowadays, school violence has become one of the topics that most concern in society; making it necessary to determine their causes, relationships and patterns of prevention and resolution. The research analysed the gender, physical activity, as well as different situations of bullying that were experienced by a sample of 409 schoolchildren in the province of Granada, in order to establish relationships between these parameters. The results indicated that 15% of schoolchildren had suffered bullying, that boys had witnessed and harassed more than girls, whereas girls suffered more bullying. In addition, the data showed that students, who do different team sports, used to experience less bullying than children that do not do it. In conclusion, we show that there are an important part of schoolchildren who suffering bullying situations, although these are diminished when team sport is done by the students. Thus, this study demonstrates the interest of using sports for preventing school violence and bullying in Physical Education lessons.
