Abstract

The appearance of new contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in urban wastewater as a result of the consumption habits of today's society is compromising the incoming strategies for regeneration and reuse of wastewater in the European Union and even worldwide. This work focuses on the removal of CECs for urban wastewater reuse, through the use of advanced treatment technologies that adapt and complement the conventional activated sludge (CAS) process to degrade contaminants of emerging concern in actual wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).
