Abstract

The teaching and learning of chemical equilibrium presentimportant difficulties due to the traditional use of inaccuracy analogies andto the wrong understanding of ideas associated to chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, etc. In this context, we have developed ateaching innovation project with the aim to teach the relevant aspects ofchemical equilibrium by means of the resolution of open-ended problemsusing inquiry-based methodology. For this purpose, computer simulationhas been used by the students, being the inquiry-tasks orientated by theteacher. This project is addressed to the first courses of Chemistry,Chemical Engineer and Environmental Sciences of the University ofGranada. The proposed activities correspond to the supervised academicactivities (SAA) involved into the ECTS. In the classroom, the computeracts as cognitive tool for helping the students in their inquiry, as well as a virtual laboratory in which they can do experiments and contrasthypothesis.
