Résumé
This paper presents a study focused on deepening the strategies and the representation systems whenSecondary students solve a mathematical modeling task about proportionality. Through a qualitativeapproach, different information collection techniques were applied: participant observation andwritten productions of the students. Among the results we emphasize that the use of numericalcalculations was the most used strategy and the most preferred symbolic-numerical representation.We conclude that it is necessary for teaching to place emphasis on the use of various strategies,beyond of the use of algorithms, and using different representations for this.
