Abstract

The present dissertation, with an international doctoral mention, is comprised of eight chapters, namely: Theoretical Framework, Introduction, Method, Results, Intervention Design, Conclusions, Bibliographical References and Annexes. After an extensive bibliographic review of the academic literature, this PhD thesis addresses an in-depth study of the tragic component present in Spanish children's folk songs. A mixed methodological approach has been followed to analyze 2558 compositions that comprised manual content analysis, computer content analysis, formal analysis of the lyrics, musical analysis, and hermeneutic analysis. The manual and computerized content analyses show a high agreement rate and reliability. Based on the results obtained, we reflect on the pedagogical potential of Spanish children's folk songs. This reflection crystallizes in the design of an educational intervention program for death, tragedy, and resilience, using the Spanish children's folk songs previously identified as tragic. In conclusion, it is possible to confirm a significant presence of tragic textual elements in Spanish children's folk songs, the fertility of the research methods employed, and the potential of these traditional compositions as an educational resource.
