Abstract

This paper aims to improve knowledge of the Iberian cultural legacy of Cerrillo Blanco, focusing research on the elements of polychromy and its procedural techniques. In previous studies we have documented the presence of polychromy in the sculptural ensemble, although no remains of binders or preparation have been found that can allow us to explain its production process. In order to study the technique used by the Iberian artists of Cerrillo Blanco, reference samples have been made with traditional materials used since Prehistory. They have been tested to evaluate their chromatic behavior, as well as their resistance by scotch tape and abrasion tests. The results have allowed us to contrast new aspects about the pictorial techniques used in Antiquity and in Iberian art as well as possible explanations for their stability and survival over time.
