Abstract

Problem posing is an activity that stay in the background in the classroom and it can be useful for several purposes such as the identification and stimulation of mathematical talent. In this research we analysed 15 answers from gifted students between 13 and 15 years of age to a problem posing task. We did a qualitative analysis that studies the possibility of resolution, the context and syntactic and mathematical complexity. The purpose was to find some of the characteristics of the problems generated by this type of students. It can be conclude that the problems posed by mathematical gifted students are very rich and original, and they show a positive attitude toward maths as a tool to understand the reality and they generate problems with a high level of complexity in comparison with the curriculum.
