Doctor by the Universidad de Granada with the thesis La conflictividad campesina en la provincia de Jaén durante el periodo 1931-1939 1991. Supervised by Dr. Miguel Gomez Oliver.

Professor of Contemporary History. Research professor at the London School of Economics (University of London) and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. I have focused my research on the analysis of the politicization processes of the Spanish peasantry from a comparative European perspective. I have also directed my research work towards the study of the social and political movements that contributed to the replacement of the Franco dictatorship by a democratic and parliamentary regime. Likewise, I have deployed a broad line of research concerned with pointing out the fundamental characteristics presented by the authoritarian, totalitarian and dictatorial regimes of Europe between the wars. In recent times I have been developing a research activity focused on the study of social attitudes and behaviors shown by the societies that sustained the dictatorial and totalitarian regimes of Nazism and Communism. I have been First Researcher of four National Research Projects (R+D+I calls), related both to the gestation of the social bases of support for democracy, the social aspects of the Spanish Democratic Transition and various issues related to the Recovery of the democratic memory of the Second Spanish Republic. For the last few years I have been working, through the direction of various research projects, on issues related both to the analysis of the social support provided to the Franco regime in its first stage of implementation and to the role played by social mobilization and protest in the diffusion of values of civic and democratic citizenship among the rural population of the Spanish South during the Late Francoism and the Political Transition.
