Abstract
In this work we explore the generalization capacity of fifth grade students by analysing the strategies used in a generalization task based on a generic example. Here we focus on their answers to the questions of the task that refer to inverse functional relations between two variables. We highlight the use of different patterns as the most frequent strategy and the evidence obtained about the fifth grade students� generalization ability.
