Resumen
Las heridas crónicas son un problema de salud a nivel mundial que afecta al 1-2% de la población, pudiendo tener implicaciones negativas para el paciente, y llegando a suponer la amputación de la extremidad e incluso la muerte. El control del tejido es el primer paso para preparar el lecho de la herida, desbridando el tejido desvitalizado, reduciendo el riesgo de infección, controlando el exudado, y estimulando el crecimiento del tejido de granulación, que en su conjunto contribuyen a la curación de la herida. Dentro de los diferentes tipos de desbridamiento encontramos la terapia de desbridamiento larval (TDL), que ha sido utilizada con mayor o menor prioridad desde la antigüedad. Actualmente, la TDL ha vuelto a cobrar un especial interés gracias a los beneficios en el tratamiento de las heridas crónicas, que principalmente son: el desbridamiento rápido y eficaz, el control de la infección y biofilm, y la cicatrización de la herida. El objetivo del estudio fue recopilar información clave sobre la utilización de la TDL en heridas crónicas, reportar la evidencia actual sobre la aplicación del tratamiento y poder, de este modo, dar a conocer la terapia de desbridamiento larval desde una perspectiva histórica, teórica y práctica.
