Abstract

In this work we summarize the semiotic conflicts identified in an investigation on understanding of sampling with high school students. The work is carried out on a sample of 127 Spanish high school students who are asked to write four samples of a binomial distribution, varying the parameters and justifying the samples provided. From their arguments, the semiotic conflicts that are associated with randomness or sampling and that include properties that do not adapt to the institutional meaning of these concepts are identified.
